Working digitizer not responsive after disassembly

Hello guys,

I just disassembled my iPhone 5 in order to replace the audio buttons.

After reassembly, the LCD works fine, all buttons as well except the digitizer.

The screen is completely unresponsive.

I am sur i reconnected the digitizer properly and took extra-care of the ribbons. What surprises me is that the full touch area is not working, not even a single dot. That's why i assume the digitizer is not necessarily broken.

Could it be linked with another component that i forgot to plug properly ? Any other idea would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I just tested my screen on another iPhone 5, the digitizer works like a charm ! Then the problem really comes from the rebuilding of the iPhone. The connector for the digitalizer on the motherboard doesn't seem to have had any kind of damage. (Around it as well)

Thanks in advance

Check black rubber type material on motherboard around connector. Carefully remove it and new plug should stay connected.

Hi, had the same issue. I re-tighten the screws connecting the the metal shield to the back of the screen,,, for good earthing and all is well

Hi there, so I think I might have the solution.

The screen obviously has the three black ribbons that end in the connectors that need to be connected to the iPhone.

You automatically start with connecting the connector for the digitiser as it is the one that must be connected first, because the other ribbons go on top of this connector.

What I did - and what I would recommend you doing- is to buy a piece of double sided tape (this exact kind https://imgur.com/a/q9jgwca) and put it on top on the back of the connector for the digitiser so that the ribbon from the other two connectors push down onto the tape and therefore onto the digitiser connector. That way there is constant pressure. (for those of you who don't click on the link - it is the kind of double sided tape that has some thickness to it).

Worked like a charm for me.

so the digitizer is not the problem, there is no other plug in component that could cause you problem. some iphone 5's have black tape around the lcd and digitizer connectors to protect the fragile components underneath. peel off the tape and check for any components that maybe got knocked off. also try cleaning the contacts before reassembly

Hello iwillfix and thanks for your answer, I really appreciate.

Hmm, there was no black tape on them but i see what you are talking about as the black tape was present in the other iPhone on which i tried my screen.

One of the condos close to the digitizer seems indeed weird ... Either it's this one which died, otherwise I don't know.

In this case, are there any ways to fix that or is my iPhone just good to go to the trash ? (P.S. : iPhone is still under warranty, what about it under the assumption i dismantled it ?)

In the case it's the contacts, what's the best solution to clean them properly ?

Thanks a lot !

If someone has found a solution to this problem please post it.

My daughter's iphone 5's digitizer stopped working all of a sudden. I ordered another digitizer and battery and installed them. The iphone started up nicely but the digitizer still didn't work. Any comments please post.

Thanks,

Home button with touch ID is linked to the phone and only the original button will work.

Disconnect the camera, reseat the digitizer and Lcd connections and try it without the camera.

I did just that, tuned on, no luck. Afterwards I reconnected the flex ribbon to the logic board I conducted a hard reset, works fine. Reconnected the camera and home button and put back together. Hope this helps!

Hit it with a heat gun for about 2 minutes let it get super hot, let it cool down and reconnect.

I found that the insulating , protective material used on phone motherboard stops the digitizer from connecting properly. Careful when removing don't damage small components. Must be replacement connectors are more shallow and need extra distance.
