How about the brand new 27 inch iMac, can the stand be removed and later on be re-assembled?
I'm going to buy one soon but have to carry it on a plane overseas. It's too big to put it with its original packing into a suitcases, even into those oversized ones.
Any help is appreciated.

This failing, go to Apple and look for VESA or Google it, they are the authorities on Mac stand removing.

Thanks for the info. I saw this video before. But what I'm looking for is for the brand new and ultra thin iMac 27" just released in December.
Even looking for VESA and after Google I could not find any information.
I guess it will be difficult with that new a thinner design.
Got some bad news here -
The newest iMacs stands are different than the older ones. Presently there is no bracket mounts VESA Mount Standard to swap them out with.

I have same problem, I bought the 27inch wall mount, but as you say, cannot remove stand. So I unplugged the power cable, then used pthe vista mount by clamping it through the hole for the cable, it clamps very strong, but obviously you see the foot of the stand from the front I used folding wall mount and it works fine. Remember to allow for the position of the clamp if you use a wall mount. Hope this helps.

Thats great but after buying a new iMac it's a moot point to show a link to buy a new iMac WITH the stand FYI.

Just in case you missed it: You can now buy new iMac with a VESA mount already installed directly from Apple

Is there any new information on tand removal?
I purchased the Tenba flight case but it i ridiculous in size compared to this mac.
Remove the stand and the case could shrink by 80%

Sorry to say Apple is not offering a removable stand in the newer systems. But they will sell you a new system with a VESA mount. Review this: VESA Mount solution for newer iMac's late '12 & current '13 models
